Swanage is not just a name on the signpost to me - it's the place where I first landed in the UK more than 20 years ago, and where that feeling of “I want to spend my life in this country” hit me like a truck. I've been longing for this place ever since, seeing it in the happiest of my dreams. Now, as I actually live here, in a country that is familiar, but still unknown, it feels like both a safe haven and a rabbit hole to my teenage self.
Since my first visit, my life has gone through massive changes, and Swanage has stayed nearly the same. I love having one-on-ones with it off-season, when the crowds of tourists disappear and the town feels like a friend who has taken off their fancy Sunday best and shows their real, raw, unmasked self to me.
I tried to capture that quiet, grounded solitude, the peace and intimacy I have with a place that, to me, is a living creature I grew up with - not just a spot on the map.
